The Faith
If you had to ask a musician/artist the question...'what comes first in your life?' and the answer is 'my instrument'... would you be surprised? I believe not as the norm would answer like that. But not in my case...
When I started to play seriously I was 14 going to 15 yrs of age. I used to play between 7 to 8 hrs a day. Sometimes even 9 and 10 hrs too!! Although I became very solid as a guitarist and started to teach at 17 I had something missing inside. Sadly I looked for that in wild living and became a drug addict. This went on for 10 yrs. But when I was on the verge of ending it all I was introduced to Jesus Christ! Although I understood nothing and believed nothing I felt I had no other option than to 'try' the Lord.
And that was the best decision I ever took in my life and I'm sure I'll never take another one as good! When I understood that God Himself became man in the person of Jesus Christ and died for my sins, I prayed and accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour. In that instance I became what the Bible calls a born again Christian. My life was transformed as Christ came to reign in my heart. The emptiness I used to have inside was completely filled with the Lord's Spirit. I didn't even need a residential drug rehab to come off the dope. In few months I was clean from everything that had to do with drugs. My life became centred around God's Word i.e. the Holy Bible and a personal relationship with Christ.
Today 13 yrs after that decision I'm still sober and became even a better musician/artist and guitar player. Even as a teacher I had the great satisfaction to see some of my former students become part of Malta's top bands. The reason for this is that when you walk with the Lord day after day He will bless you and open doors in your life you never thought possible. He will use the talent He gave you so that you draw others to Him. Life offers a lot of struggles and pain but when Christ is the centre of your life nothing will be too much for Him to handle for you. My relationship with Christ is the most important thing that I live for. Then everything else I do He will see personally to fulfil in my life as I walk with Him. And that's what He's doing with my art and gift and music...
